Welcome

Welcome to the Laser Zone! This zone is solely for the laser cutter.

Training

  • When Authorized to use tools, it means you have been authorized by a trainer to use the laser. Authorization refers to the unique things that are required of a user at KMS, one knows how to use the tool, maintain it, where parts and tools unique to the tool are kept, and the proper condition to leave it in.
  • Full Access allows operators to utilize the equipment without supervision.
  • Limited Access allows operators to utilize the equipment once the project setup has been verified.

Office Hours

  • 2nd and 4th Mondays of the Month at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Getting Help

  • The Trainers will answer questions on the operation of the laser cutter.
  • Designing work is not included. If you need help with your design, there will be an additional charge set by the person helping.

Safety Rules

  • Only cut these materials
  • Keep area clear of debris, cutoff pieces and other hazards.
  • Take your time. Accidents happen because someone is in too big of a hurry.
  • Think about what you are doing. If something seems unsafe, it probably is.
  • If you see flames between the lens and your work, stop the equipment until you can isolate the issue.
  • If your work is catching on fire, melting, or similar stop the equipment until you can isolate the issue.
  • Leave the space as clean as you found it. If you find it in a messy state, please contact Ryan or Zack describing the mess, date, and time, and then please be extra awesome and clean up after those before you.

Projects and Material Storage

There is currently no place for over night or long term storage in this zone. All project must be taken home at the end of the day.

Trash

  • Place small trash into trash bins.
  • Place large wooden trash into the waste bid near the table saw in the wood shop.
  • Place all other large items near one of the trash bins.
